For those who already use OverDrive or Libby apps to access eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eZines there is a change coming in early 2020 that affect how your holds work. The new feature that Rakuten OverDrive will be rolling out is called hold redelivery and will be replacing the auto-checkout feature. We hope that you find the following change a positive experience; however, if you find that you having difficulty, please reach out to any one of our friendly staff members for help.
What does this mean to you and your holds?
With hold redelivery you will be able to suspend a hold. You may also have the option to exercise this option after the hold is available to you. By suspending the hold you will be able to retain your place on the waitlist, until the next copy is available, but will allow the book to be passed to the next patron on the waitlist. Sound confusing? Just a little, right? We will try to break it down for you so it isn't as confusing as it sounds by providing you with the same information that we have received from OverDrive:
Libby notificiations (coming soon) will alert users when their holds become available. They will also add this notifications feature to the OverDrive website and app. After receiving the notification that a hold is available, users can:
- Borrow the title within three (3) days.
- Suspend the hold and pass the book to the next person in line. After the suspension period (set by you, the user), the hold will be redelivered when the next copy is available.
- Cancel the hold.
If you take no action, the hold will automatically be suspended for seven (7) days. If no action is taken a second time, the hold will be canceled automatically.
We are not sure of when this change will be coming as they have not announced the exact rollout date as of yet, but we will keep you posted as soon as we hear something.
We nor OverDrive/Libby will abandon you at this time. We will have as many resources available to help make this transition a smooth process. Please, ensure that you Libby/OverDrive app is up-to-date as there will be the addition of push notifications, in-app help that will help guide you through this change.
Also, hold email notifications will be updated to reflect this change and the new options.
And, as always, look to our website, Facebook page, eNewsletters, print newsletters, and in-house flyers that will provide detailed information about this change. Patrons can expect to see a banner on the MOLIBS2GO website that will announce this upcoming change in December.
Thank you in advance for your patience, and we will get through this change together.
